Developing Independent Learners
Teacher : Student 1:5 Max 10 Students per class
We encourage children to become independent learners through providing child-centric accessible education. This means, the curriculum and pedagogical styles are matched to the developmental stage of the child. When a child is able to access his learning himself, he builds self-confidence. Self-confidence is a key stepping stone to a successful learning environment.
We appeal to the child’s logic and rational thinking capacities in our classroom practice through active play. Even a two-year-old can apply logic and reason to solve a problem that is developmentally aligned to his age and stage of learning and which is fun and easily accessible to him. When he is consistently able to do so, and we expect him to do so, he will develop the sense of ownership and responsibility towards his own learning and accomplishment.
Train up your child in the right path; and even when he is old, he will not turn away from it.
We offer choices to the child. When we expect a child to make a responsible choice, and respect his choices regardless of his age, he develops the sense of autonomy and control over his ability to make sound decisions.
We ask questions and we encourage students to ask questions. Classes are interactive and we learn from one another.
We encourage persistence by praising effort, rather than focusing only on effort. Failure is inevitable and welcome. Every failure is an opportunity for a FAIL-ABRATION. Failure is the stepping stone to success, and so we celebrate mistakes and encourage children to brush themselves off and try again until we celebrate success together.
We allow children to explore and learn rather than provide solutions immediately. This may seem to take more time than otherwise. However, we believe that play is the work of the child. Problem solving skills are developed as early as 2 years old during active directed play rather than in a restrictive lecturing model of learning.
We believe in the child. When the child knows that we expect much from him, he will step up to those expectations and fill those shoes.
We develop routine and responsibilities. Routine and consistency provide a safe and secure environment for the child away from home. When chores and responsibilities are incorporated into the routines, children understand expectations, feel accomplished completing simple tasks, and it’s a win-win for everyone!
